When is the last time that we laid down our masks? It’s easier than ever today to hide. We have social media where most of the time we put our best foot forward. Life’s a charm and it’s a glamour-filled life, or so it seems. With texting and technology in general, we have less and less voice-to-voice and eye-to-eye contact. I guess it’s easy to hide behind screens, isn’t it!
Why do we have to have a crisis such as addictions before we are open to support groups? I recently looked up the definition of Encounter Groups. It is “A group of people who meet, usually with a trained leader, to increase self-awareness and social sensitivity, and to change behavior through interpersonal confrontation, self disclosure and strong emotional expression.” WOW! When’s the last time any of us experienced that?
It’s our vulnerability and our imperfections that make us human and that’s what gives hope and reassurance that we’re in this thing together.
Just some thoughts I’ve been pondering….Love to know your thoughts…
Nina,
I agree, vulnerability brings out the best of people, in a safe environment. When one shares a struggle, others gain confidence to do the same. I’ve seen it happen time after time. And the connection is so much sweeter for having been real with one another!
Blessings to you!
Sally, thank you for your comment! It was such a joy to be in your writing class last night. You and the women in the class really do have an “encounter group” don’t you! I look forward to our next session!!
Life’s best to you!
